CDN Technology

Intelligent CDN software

StreamZilla is powered by VideoExchange, our market leading Content Delivery Network management software.

VideoExchange

VDO-X

Cutting Edge CDN technology

StreamZilla is powered by VideoExchange CDN Management Server, advanced CDN deployment, management and provisioning software.

VideoExchange enables us to setup and operate a professional Content Delivery Network without the need for dozens of highly skilled operators.

VideoExchange integrates support for all popular media delivery technologies. VideoExchange understands which content type can be delivered via which service and which media players can playback the assets.

VideoExchange uses standards based API's to monitor servers, to manage assets and live streams. Support for RTMP, RTSP, MMS and HTTP servers is integrated.

See the online walkthrough for detailed screenshots of the management interface.

Professional management

Managing a CDN is a breeze with VideoExchange. We add media servers on the fly. We cluster servers on the fly. We match ip networks and servers on the fly. We migrate accounts and servers without disrupting the service. Servers are monitored permanently. Accounts are setup with a few clicks and beautiful statistics are generated automatically.

Delivery optimization

VideoExchange automatically senses popularity of each asset and live stream. Popular content is immediately moved to available overflow or edge servers and your audience is transparently redirected and load balanced over our large cloud of delivery servers.

Self service CDN center

Use your self service CDN center for maximum control over your content delivery. Setup live streams. Upload and manage assets. Manage distribution. Generate embed codes for all popular media clients. Integrate your workflow systems with our open standards based API's.

Advantages of the VDO-X CDN technology

True Next-Gen CDN solution

Regular CDN's use a mix of network layer routing solutions, DNS or BGP redirection tweaks and caching/proxying mechanisms. This requires specific network network components, specific DNS servers, specific delivery hardware and specific storage solutions.

VideoExchange on the other hand is a software suite that runs on any generic web server. It can be rolled out in any IP network, and even on multiple IP networks without the need for, depending on or changing the network infrastructure or it's components. The benefits are better management, fast rollout, more flexibility, independent operation and low cost infrastructure.

Dynamic asset replication versus static asset replication

Instead of copying every asset to each server, VideoExchange copies assets only to those servers that are connected to specific regions where the assets are popular. This is done instantly.

This saves copying time so assets are live within a few minutes, compared to many hours. It also saves a lot of storage on edge servers/clusters/PoPs. And compared to plain caching/proxying, the VideoExchange asset replication is controlled and manageable.

Dynamic server-network range matching versus static server-network matching

VideoExchange lets you match any edge delivery server to any global ISP network or IP network range. This is N-to-N: you can match multiple networks to multiple servers. Matching is a matter of a click, and is instant. We can manage resources per customer and move traffic around to any edge server to offload busy servers immediately. Other CDN's have static relays. Changes can take days to become effective.

Dynamic user redirection versus static user redirection

VideoExchange can immediately redirect an end user to any server in it's distributed cloud based on the availability of servers and the IP origin of the end user. Most CDN's have static redirection mechanisms, changes can take up to two days to become effective.

Integrated support for all streaming services, protocols and formats, plus web acceleration support

Traditional CDN's offer web file acceleration and offer limited or less integrated streaming support. Most CDN's started with web acceleration and bolted on streaming support afterwards. Some us virtualization and lose performance. Some CDN's even have to manually swap server software to support a specific delivery protocol.

All delivery servers in the VideoExchange CDN can deliver any file and stream type so you can maximize resources utilization, and the web interface enables generic and integrated management features for all popular delivery technologies.

Extensive reporting

VideoExchange shows load and availability of every server, accounts popularity, requests from networks, assets status, etcetera. Realtime reports are available for the CDN operator (CDN overview), for each content user (account overview) and for each asset. The CDN operator also has in-depth uptime, load and traffic reporting tools. Content users have in-depth historical reports.

User friendly, self service web interface

Last but not least, VideoExchange offers a full-featured yet user friendly web interface for managing the CDN. A single operator can oversee and manage a CDN with hundreds servers, thousands customers and millions streams per day.

Each CDN customer gets a professional web interface to upload assets, setup live streams, publish content and see realtime and in-depth statistics. See the online walkthrough for a preview.

Unique IP

VideoExchange is developed entirely in-house. The technology roots go back to the mid '90s when we started developing basic asset replication, redirection and log processing tools for our own webcasting projects, by lack of available solutions. We own unique IP that does not infringe other CDN patents. And we have a lot of prior art as well.

vdo-x.net

We developed VideoExchange (VDO-X) in the nineties because of lack of good CDN technologies. Our mother company Jet Stream BV has published additional information about VideoExchange.

VideoExchange is available as commercial software that is licensed to anyone with a IP network. See details on www.vdo-x.net.
